How to monitor specific text.

Why monitor specific text?
Are you receiving alerts about text changes that aren't related to what you care about? You can tell Visualping exactly which text matters, such as a price, a product's availability, or a particular phrase, so you only get alerted when that text changes.
There are two ways to do this:
AI Mode (recommended): Describe the text you care about in plain language, and the AI alerts you only when it changes. This is the default for new monitors.
Text changes with keywords: Compare the text of the whole page, and get alerted only when specific words or phrases are added or removed.
Option 1: AI Mode (recommended)
Step 1:
Create a new monitor
On the dashboard, click Start monitoring, paste the URL of the page, and click Go. For example:
https://www.amazon.ca/Cracking-Coding-Interview-Programming-Questions/dp/0984782850/Step 2:
Describe the text you care about
In the Alert me when field, describe the text change you want to be alerted about. Be specific, for example "the price changes", "the book goes out of stock", or "the words 'new edition' appear". You can also tell the AI what to ignore, such as reviews or recommended products. See Making a Strong Prompt for Important Alerts for tips.
Step 3 (optional):
Select an area
You don't need to select an area for Visualping to detect text changes. If you want to focus on one part of the page, draw a box around it in the preview.
Step 4:
Choose a frequency and start monitoring
Select how often Visualping should check the page, then click Start Monitoring.
Option 2: Text changes with keywords
Text changes compares all the visible text on the page. On its own, it alerts you based on how much of the page's text changed. To focus on specific text, add keywords: you'll then be alerted only when one of them is added to or removed from the page.
Step 1:
Create a new monitor
On the dashboard, click Start monitoring, paste the URL of the page, and click Go.
Step 2:
Choose the Text changes compare type
Open Advanced settings and choose Text changes as the compare type. You'll find it under Legacy modes.
Step 3:
Add keywords
Add the words or phrases you want to watch for, and choose whether to be alerted when they're added, removed, or both. See Can I be alerted if a word or phrase is removed or added to a website? for the full steps.
Step 4:
Choose a frequency and start monitoring
Select how often Visualping should check the page, then click Start Monitoring.
Good to know
Keywords alert on changes, not on what's already there. A keyword alert is sent when the keyword is added to or removed from the page between two checks. If the keyword is already on the page when you create the monitor, you won't be alerted until it's removed.
Keywords replace the change-size setting. When you add keywords in Text changes, only a keyword match triggers an alert.
Changing the compare type can clear your settings. Switching between AI Mode and Text changes can remove your keywords or selected area. Check them again after changing the compare type.
Only visible text is compared. Text that's hidden or positioned off the page isn't included.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to select an area to monitor text?
No. Visualping detects text changes across the whole page. Use a prompt in AI Mode, or keywords in Text changes, to focus on the text you care about.
The text I want only appears after I click or scroll. What can I do?
Use actions to click, scroll, or close popups so the page shows the text you want before each check.
My keywords disappeared. Why?
This usually happens after changing the compare type away from Text changes. Keywords are only available in Text changes, so switch back and re-add them.
I'm still getting unrelated alerts. What else can I try?
